Data for the 2024-2025 school year indicates that 5,984 K-12 students (45.3% of total enrollment) in LCSD #1 and 427 K-12 students (41.5% of total enrollment) in LCSD #2 qualify for free and reduced meals.
Based upon results from childhood hunger programs in existence for several years, providing nutritious weekend meals for this at-risk population should not only alleviate their immediate hunger, but improve their overall health and performance levels during the school week.
Through the generosity of a totally volunteer workforce, the Friday Food Bag Foundation delivers bags of single serve, nutritious, non-perishable food each week to schools in LCSD#1 and LCSD#2 for distribution by school personnel to children who may not eat well – or at all – on the weekends.
Thanks for considering joining this effort.
